Meaning of Research
Research in common parlance refers to a search for knowledge. One can also specify research as a technological and organized search for appropriate data and information on a specific matter. In fact, research is an art of scientific investigation The Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English lays down the meaning of research as “a careful investigation or inquiry especially through the search for new facts in any branch of knowledge.”1 Redman and Mory define research as a “systematized effort to gain new knowledge.”2 Some people consider research as a movement, a movement from the known to the unknown
The term ‘research’ refers to the orderly method consisting of articulating the problem, developing a hypothesis, gathering the facts or data, examining the facts and reaching out to certain determinations either in the form of solutions(s) towards the concerned problem or in certain generalizations for some theoretical conceptualization..
So Research is a cognitive process of gathering, examining and interpreting info to answer queries. It’s the orderly, accurate investigation of a problem in order to gain new knowledge or formalize present knowledge simply to characterize as research; the method must have definite characteristics: it must, as far as possible, be controlled, exact, systematic, logical and conformable, experimental and critical.
